Our genes influence how our bodies grow, how we look and how we learn. Health and learning problems can stem from changes in our genetic information. While some of these medical conditions can be inherited, others may occur for the first time.

If you're experiencing a genetic condition, you can access evaluation, testing, diagnosis and counseling at our center. Board certified in Medical Genetics and Genomics, our geneticists collaborate with genetic counselors who are certified by the American Board of Genetic Counseling. They provide many helpful services, such as:

• Clinical genetic evaluation and counseling – If you're living with a known or suspected genetic disorder, birth abnormality, intellectual disability, dysmorphic feature or an increased risk for similar problems in pregnancy, you may benefit from our clinical genetic evaluation and counseling services.
• Genetic counseling for hereditary cancer – You can meet with one of our genetic counselors to carefully review your personal and family cancer history, as well as the basics of hereditary cancer. If genetic testing is appropriate, your genetic counselor will discuss the benefits, risks and limitations.
• Personalized medicine clinic – Our multidisciplinary team specializes in the genetics of drug responses to help you better manage medications for non-cancerous conditions, and help predict future pharmacotherapy.

Telemedicine services and locations

We provide telehealth consultations for all ages at Angel Medical Center in Franklin so that you don't have to drive to our Asheville office for genetic counseling, evaluation and testing. While at Angel Medical Center, you can be scheduled to meet with our genetic providers by video. If needed, you may also complete genetic testing during the same visit.
